Why Linux Continues to Evade Mainstream Users 08-08-2008 |
(Column) - Reading articles like this certainly make us feel good, but I have to say that they leave me with a bad taste in my mouth. Trinity vs. System Rescue CD Reviewed 08-20-2008 |
(Review) - Let's face it - there is no shortage of distributions of Linux with the recovery of boneheaded Windows users in mind. For many, this is where their first introduction to Linux actually came from. In other words, trying out Knoppix.

Wine-Doors for Linux Reviewed 08-08-2008 |
(Review) - I have been using Wine (WINE) or various implementations of it (Crossover Office and Cedega) for a few years now. What is funny is that I often had more success with Wine proper than I did with the various offshoot products. Go figure! So when I learned this issue... |

(Column) - For years now we have heard about Linux on the desktop and its need to make a concerted effort to illustrate its value to the end user and whatnot. The point of it all being is that if we expect Linux to become a household name, we must find away to get it into the minds of the typical... |

(Column) - Realizing that "What if" articles tend to bring out the best and worst in people, I thought it was worth exploring this mindset again, just for kicks. This time, however, there is a clear angle to the idea. One that I hope can crossover and inspire, if nothing else. |

Don’t misunderstand me, as I’m not preaching the value of proprietary codecs. Despite Theora's shortcomings with rendering speed and overall playback quality in comparison to proprietary alternatives, this does not mean that all open source codecs are loosing ground in the fight for your vide... |

(Review) - If there is one area where the Linux desktop has done very well, it has to be the variety of solutions for subscribing to RSS feeds that has been made available to us. In this piece, I will be sharing some of these applications and my thoughts on them. |

(Column) - I have been asked this over and again - which hardware should be avoided before installing Linux? The list is actually smaller than you might expect, but it is helpful if you would like to remain in a headache-free zone.

(Review) - Assuming you have managed to find a wireless card that is working well with your Linux distribution, or perhaps you just settled for a hack-n’-hope solution with NDISWrapper, you need to settle on an application that you can use to connect to your wireless network. |

(Review) - It’s rare these days that any one program gets me really excited, as I always feel like I have seen it all. Today, however, I believe I have come upon software concepts that have a lot of potential. Both are very different from one another, yet each is very strong in function in thei... |

(Review) - Generally speaking, I have been quite happy using Nautilus with a little help from Tracker from time to time. Nautilus is a no nonsense file manager that allows most users to get the most out of their files and the way they choose to manage them. |
